1954 H.R.G. Twin Cam Sports Racer
Chassis Number: 15APB
1 of 3 Built!
The H.R.G. company was founded by E.A. Halford, Guy Robins and H.R. Gocfrey. This model "Twin Cam" was built for Paul Fletcher a Gentleman race driver from London. This extremely rare example is one of three cars built and is the only car in its original condition spending all its life in a private collections. The HRG was well ahead of its time and the unique spider wheels meant the brakes could be changed in 15 minutes this along with the tubular chassis gave the car superb road holding as the plans were to run an HRG team at Le Mans these were important design factors. The twin cams as they became known were very expensive hand built sports cars. The engine is a 1497cc twin over head cam four cylinder built by Singer. After 15APB left the factory the company could only produce performance parts and did not produce another car. It was the last car HRG made, except for a brief one off effort some twenty years late. The twin cam was one of the first few manufacturers to have hydraulic calipers and disk for brakes. These were built in house by HRG. Jaguar made famous disk brakes at Le Mans.
A British gentelman brought this car over to the USA in the mid 1960's. He sold it to Gary Ford in 1968, who kept it until 1975. In 1974 Mr. Park allowed Ian Dussek to drive the car in a GP support race at Watkins Glen. The car has also participated in the 2004 Aintree Sports Car race (driven by Simon Edwards) and the 2007 Le Mans 24 Hours invited support race, (driven by Patrick Edwards).
